Yoga literally means "to yoke" - and the practice of yoga does exactly that, connecting body, spirit, and mind. In yoga, the asanas (physical positions) are intertwined with pranayama (breath) and meditation.
For me, the meaning of yoga doesn't stop there. I have found yoga to mean so much more - the study and practice of yoga links my physical awareness with compassion, a deep love for humanity and for myself and my loved ones, my connection with the people and world around me, and my awareness of the space and feelings that surround us all, a quieting of the mind, an acute awareness of the nuances in life, an appreciation and gratitude for living and being.
